Preliminary Task

For this task I worked with Sophie Stacey which I believed went well.
We completed all the required elements which are asked for in the marks scheme, which are: Opening a door, sitting down and exchanging lines of dialogue. We also included match on action and used the 180 degrees rule.
We scripted our dialogue and storyboarded each frame. This was to make sure it was a controlled filming and everything was included and went according to plan. We chose our location to suit the door we wanted to film because we wanted a window in the door to ensure our match on action editing when opening the door showed it's full effect. I believe we used the tripod effectively as we achieved a steady shot and our framing was well postioned also.
We used long shots, medium shots and close ups to range our task. We also used the over the shoulder technique to go with the dialogue. The main continuity issue was the closing of the door with each take. I believe we managaed to achieve a good and smooth cut with our editing. As it was a continuous conversation we decided to stick to simple cuts as transitions to make sure the editing was the same style as 'Hollywood editing' which passes unnoticed.
The first problem we had was mis-en-scene. The location was busy and created problems, especially with sound. More sound was created in the background creating an error which we had to correct; the sound had to be muted. This was a minor continuity error. Another issue was lighting. The camera was facing the door which was the natural light source for the room. As I had my back to the light my face became dark and silhouetted, which we didn't notice until we began to edit.
In future project I will take into account all of these issues and put a lot more effort into planning to make sure I don't encounter them again.
